Bastrop County Arrest History
Bastrop County arrest records can begin with the Sheriff's Office, Bastrop Police Department, Elgin Police Department, Smithville Police Department, a precinct constable, Texas DPS, or another agency with arrest power. The arresting agency creates the incident or arrest report. Bastrop County Jail then creates a booking record when it accepts the person into custody.
Fingerprints and reportable Class B or greater arrest data move toward the Texas Computerized Criminal History system. A magistrate records warnings, probable cause, and bond decisions. Prosecutors and court clerks create a case only after charging action. These linked records can disagree in timing and detail. The booked charge is the intake allegation, while the filed charge reflects the prosecutor's decision and the disposition records the court's final result.
No Bastrop County Arrest Blotter
The county does not publish a standard searchable inmate roster or daily arrest blotter. The Sheriff's Most Wanted page is not a booking log. For present custody, call Booking at 512-549-5073 and provide the person's name plus date of birth or SO or booking number when known. For a released person, request the booking record from Sheriff records instead.
The Sheriff online offense-reporting page is also not an arrest search. It accepts limited victim reports for eligible non-emergency events in unincorporated areas, and it excludes emergencies, injuries, evidence collection, stolen vehicles, and city incidents.
The official screen makes that division clear: reporting an incident and finding a Bastrop County booking are different tasks.
Looking Up Bastrop County Arrests
A complete lookup uses the channel that fits the record's stage. Start with current custody, then obtain the agency record, check for a filed case, and use state sources only for the narrower information they hold. No single database completes every step.

The fingerprint transaction number supports justice-system reporting but may not appear in the public response. A later case number and disposition must be checked separately.
Bastrop County Custody Alerts
Integrated Victim Services System, or IVSS, offers free custody and scheduled court-event information and alerts. It operates around the clock in English and Spanish. VINELink is also linked by the Sheriff. These services reduce repeated calls, but they are notification channels rather than a full historic arrest archive.

For a record copy, use Sheriff records. For a filed prosecution, use the clerk. Keeping those goals separate prevents an alert status from being read as a complete case history.
Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
Recent Bastrop County arrests must be checked through Booking phone, written agency requests, Odyssey after filing, and IVSS or VINELink. Unofficial mugshot sites and people-search services are not authoritative sources and are not used here. A person can be booked before a court case appears. A released booking can also disappear from a current-custody check while its underlying agency record remains.
The final 2025 PREA audit describes the jail as one building with a designated capacity of 400. During the prior reporting period it recorded 3,134 admissions, an average daily population of 289, and an average stay of 30 days. Those figures describe operations, not a list of arrested people and not a county crime count.

Bastrop Arrests Reach Texas DPS
A reportable arrest creates more than a local booking entry. The arresting agency records fingerprints and assigns transaction identifiers. Booking personnel transmit the arrest event for the Texas Computerized Criminal History system. Prosecutors, clerks, and supervision agencies later report their parts under Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 66.

Timing gaps are normal. Identifiers may fail to match, a prosecutor may modify or reject the charge, or a disposition may not yet have been reported. The public DPS name search is also narrower than a personal fingerprint review. It chiefly exposes public Texas convictions and deferred adjudications, not every Bastrop County booking.
After Bastrop County Custody
A person sentenced to state custody should be searched through the TDCJ Online Inmate Search, not the county booking phone. The locator accepts a required last name, optional first name, exact TDCJ or SID number, gender, and race. It covers sentenced state inmates and is not a Bastrop County jail roster.

Federal custody uses the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. Bastrop County Jail may hold people for federal agencies, but a later federal placement is searched through BOP.
This federal search is another custody layer, not proof of what happened in a Bastrop County court.
Bastrop Arrest and Magistration Timing
Bastrop County's Fair Defense Act rules require an arrested person to be brought before a magistrate without unnecessary delay and no later than 48 hours. The magistrate addresses warnings, probable cause, and bond matters. The arresting agency or Sheriff provides a Notice of Court Setting at arrest or bond release.
That early timeline explains why a booking record can exist before Odyssey shows a prosecution. The prosecutor still must decide which charge, if any, to file. A felony may proceed through complaint and grand-jury indictment. A misdemeanor commonly uses an information. The clerk's docket becomes the best source for the filed charge and outcome after that step.
Note: An Odyssey search made soon after booking may need to be repeated because filing and indexing take place later.
Arrests Are Not Convictions
An arrest means an agency took a person into custody or otherwise made an arrest. It is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. A conviction results from a court judgment. Booked charges may be reduced, replaced, rejected, dismissed, no-billed, or resolved by acquittal. Each record must therefore be read for what it proves.

Note: A Bastrop County arrest is not proof of guilt, and some bookings never produce a filed charge or conviction.
Bastrop Arrest Access Limits
The Texas Public Information Act supports access to existing public records while allowing protection for active investigative material and confidential data. Government Code Section 552.108 can protect law enforcement material, while subsection (c) preserves access to basic information about an arrested person, arrest, or crime, subject to other laws.
Juvenile arrest information is confidential under Family Code Chapter 58. Sensitive victim information and protected identifiers can also be redacted. A dismissal does not by itself erase the agency booking. A qualifying person may seek expunction under Chapter 55A, while nondisclosure is a different form of restricted public access.
Records can change as agencies report later events. A search should preserve that timeline rather than treating the first booking entry as the final result.
